January 20, 2013 Meeting

Variations on Coptic Bindings

Sunday, January 20th
2:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Jewish Cultural Center
Chattanooga TN

At this meeting, we will be trying out some different variations on the Coptic binding....and starting to make journals for the hospice project.

Bring any coptic bound journals you've made, so that we can share and learn from each other.


Please bring the following supplies with you if you have them (
If you're familiar with the process, please cover and line at least one set of covers before the meeting):
  • 2 pieces of book board- 8-3/4" h x 5-5/8"w each
  • Paper for the outside cover of your book - 2 sheets, 10"h x 7-1/2"w
  • Paper to line the cover - 2 sheets 8-1/2"h x 5-1/2"w
  • Text weight paper for the pages - 40-50 sheets, 8-1/2" x 11", folded into 5-1/2"h x 8-1/2" signatures
  • 4-6 binders needles (binders' needles have a slightly duller point than regular needles)
  • PVA glue
  • Glue brush
  • Bone folder
  • Awl
  • Cutting Mat
  • Scissors
  • Waxed linen thread 
  • Punching cradle
  • Paper towels and scrap paper for gluing
